Commissioner Macdonald reported to the Board on the meeting <br />he and Commissioner Waddell attended in Cape Canaveral. He stated that <br />they were very much impressed by the turnout and public interest shown <br />by all counties. The object of the meeting was to create a Board for <br />the purpose of planning future need of the entire area. <br />Upon Motion made by Commissioner Waddell, seconded by. <br />Commissioner Macdonald, and unanimously carried the following Resolution <br />was adopted. <br />R E S O L U T I O N <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County desires to participate in a regional <br />planning program that would include Brevard, Osceola, Seminole, Orange, <br />Volusi.a and Indian River counties, and involve preparing plans and programs <br />for physical and economic development within the six county region; and <br />dHEREAS, the Florida Development Commission has offered its services <br />to the said six counties and has agreed to execute a contract with a <br />Regional Planning Council (to be established by authority granted by Chapter <br />160 of the Florida Statutes) in connection with the preparing of plans and <br />programs for physical and economic development with the six county region; <br />and <br />nIIIEREAS, through provisions of the National Housing Act, grants are <br />made available to the Florida Development Commission that pay up to two- <br />thirds of the cost of preparing such plans and programs; and <br />WHEREAS, there is such a tremendous need for a comprehensive plan- <br />ning program in the six county region because of the establishment of the <br />;Nova Moonport Project in the area; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNTY COMMISSION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA: <br />1. That Indian River County do enter into an agreement with the <br />Regional Planning Council to be established, for the purpose of partici- <br />pating in the aforementioned regional planning program. <br />°. That said agreement shall provide that the Florida Development <br />Commission shall work with the Regional Planning Council in preparing plans <br />and programs for physical and economic development of the six county region. <br />3. That said County by said contract do agree to pay its prorated <br />share: of the cost of the regional planning program, this cost not to ex- <br />ceed $3,000.00. <br />4. That the following be designated as members of the Regional <br />Planning Council in accordance with the Act under which the Council is to <br />be established. <br />6001 1 PAGE609 <br />
