Joyce, Sherl,ff of Indian RiVo,,r <br />County, has presented to the Board of county Cozrunlasloners Of irra:tierz <br />River County the problem of commercial fishermen using nets to catch <br />fish in man-made canals and the resulting problems to the inconvenience, <br />irritation and violence of residents which are located next to and <br />adjacent to man-made canals in Indian River county; <br />WHEREAS, it appears to the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County that it would be in the best interests of the <br />general public to prohibit conutercial fishing within all man-made <br />canals and further, to prohibit commercial fishing within 100 yard4 <br />of any pier, dock or bridge; <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County is in sympathy with the problem; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners <br />of Indian River County, in regular session, this the 22nd day of <br />September, A. D. 1965, that they respectfully request the Honorable <br />Merrill P. Barber, State Senator and Honorable Arthur E. Karst, <br />member of the House of Representatives, State of Florida, to intro- <br />duce legislation at the next session of the Florida Legislature to <br />prohibit commercial fishing within all man-made canals located in <br />Indian River County and to further prohibit commercial fl--hing within <br />100 yards of any pier, dock or bridge and that the Board does further <br />respectfully request the Board of Conservation of the State of Florida, <br />if it be within their power, to take steps to implement that request <br />during the interim period between now and the next session of the <br />Legislature. <br />BE IT F'URT'HER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution shall be <br />furnished to Honorable Merrill P. Barber, Honorable Arthur 1. Karst, <br />and the Board of Conservation of the; State of Fl.ori.di. <br />
