5 . C . PROCLAMATION IN RECOGNITION OF THE VERO BEACH <br />ART CLUB ON ITS SIXTY- FIFTH ANNIVERSARY <br />Chairman Ginn read the proclamation and presented it to Mrs . Jean Nagy who <br />accepted it with thanks and who was very excited about their October 20 " celebration which <br />will be attended by three of the founding members . <br />PROCLAMATION <br />IN RECOGNITION OF THE VERO BEACH ART CLUB <br />ON ITS SIXTY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY <br />WHEREAS , on November 20 , 1936 , five people interested in drawing and painting <br />met for the first time to form a group called the Vero Beach Sketch Club , meeting each Monday <br />evening during the winter months to work and discuss all aspects of art . Their first exhibition , <br />held in 1937 , featured works by artists from Fort Pierce to Sebastian ; and <br />WHEREAS , by-laws were drafted in 1941 , and the group renamed itself the Vero <br />Beach Art Club in 1954 .During its formative years , the Club maintained studios in various <br />locations in downtown Vero Beach and established an annual Members ' Art Show . They also <br />presented monthly lecture/demonstrations which were always open to the public ; and <br />WHEREAS , the first outdoor art show was established in 1972 , and became an <br />instant success . Presented in the springtime of each year since that time , it has gained national <br />recognition as the "Under the Oaks " Outdoor Art Show ; and <br />WHEREAS , by 1975 the Club began negotiations with the City of Vero Beach to <br />obtain a site in the Civic Arts Center complex for the purpose of building an Art Academy and <br />Gallery , and was granted an option on a site . Gallery by-laws were drafted in 1977 , and the <br />Club established its first Art School in a space rented at 1965 14 `h Avenue ; and <br />WHEREAS , in 1978 the Vero Beach Art Club began a cooperative relationship with <br />the Alliance for the Arts in an attempt to further the building of an art-centered facility .An <br />agreement between the two organizations and the City of Vero Beach was reached and <br />finalized in 1981 , and the present Center for the Arts is the result of this union . <br />NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS , INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Board congratulates the Vero <br />Beach Art Club on its Sixty Fifth Anniversary <br />Adopted this 16th day of October, 2001 . <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Caroline D .
