RESOLUTION NO. 7-41 <br />WHEREAS, the Pelican Island Audubon Society has requested that <br />the county Commission seek a dedication by the Trustees of the <br />M <br />Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida of certain sovereign <br />lands situated in Indian River County; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners considers that the <br />preservation of the estuarine resources of the Indian River in this <br />County and the protection of the dependent Pelican Island National <br />Wildlife Refuge, together with their considerate use and enjoyment <br />by the public,are vital to the long term social and economic interests <br />of the citizens of this County; and, <br />WHEREAS, after continued study and review, it appears to the <br />Board that this purpose could best be served by a "Proposed Enlarge- <br />ment of the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge" to the bound- <br />aries defined on pages 4 and 5 of the attached brochure of tie Bureau <br />of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, Fish and Wildlife Service, U. S. <br />Department of the Interior, dated April 4, 1963; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Bureau has recently confirmed the merit of this <br />proposed addition and again expressed willingness to administer the <br />described area as a part of the Pelican Island National Wildlife <br />Refuge; and, <br />WHEREAS, previous reports by the Florida Board of Conservation <br />and the Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission support the Bureau's <br />evaluation of this extremely rich shallow water area; Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Indian <br />River County, Florida, does hereby respectfully petition the Trustees <br />of the Internal Improvement Fund, to dedicate in perpetuity, to the <br />people of Indian River County and the Board of County Commissioners, <br />with authority to sublease to the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wild - <br />fife for their administration as a wildlife sanctuary, all those <br />sovereign bottom lands lying within the described area of the "Pro- <br />posed Enlargement of the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge", <br />
