Chairman Macht advised that he had received a call from a <br />representative of the Italian American Civic Association who <br />expressed some of the same concerns stated in Mr. Hall's letter. <br />Chairman Macht'suggested that the County Attorney be instructed to <br />write letters to law enforcement agencies and draft an ordinance <br />attempting to control commercial bingo games. <br />Commissioner Bird questioned how to go about differentiating <br />between commercial bingo games and charitable bingo games, and <br />County Attorney Vitunac responded that bingo has an historical <br />nexus with charities, whereas commercial operations are known to <br />have a bad effect on neighborhoods. <br />CONSENSUS was reached that the County Attorney should draft an <br />ordinance for approval by the Board. <br />Commissioner Bird stated that he has had inquiries about <br />locations for commercial bingo games at his real estate office. <br />TOURIST TAX FUNDS TO ASSIST THE CITY OF VERO BEACH IN <br />REPLACEMENT OF SAND LOST TO EROSION <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of September 19, 1995: <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners <br />FROM: Fran B. Adams, Commissioner <br />DATE: September 19, 1995 <br />SUBJECT: Request for Tourist Tax Funds to Assist the City of <br />Vero Beach in Replacement of Sand Lost to Erosion <br />The following recommendation was made at the Beach and Shore <br />Preservation Advisory Committee meeting on September 18, 1995: <br />ON MOTION by Virginia Mann, SECONDED by Mike <br />Vanatta, the committee unanimously voted (5-0) <br />to request that the Board of County <br />Commissioners use tourist tax money in the <br />amount of $25,000 to assist the City of Vero <br />Beach by placing sand on the beach in the <br />P.E.P. reef project area <br />Commissioner Adams discussed the loss of sand in front of the <br />location of the planned PEP reef and reminded everyone that we are <br />only 2 weeks away from the northeaster season. She is requesting <br />a token amount of $25,000 which has been allocated to beach <br />preservation. <br />County Engineer Don Donaldson presented -some graphics with <br />profiles before and after Hurricane Erin.
