1 <br />11 <br />1 <br />MONDAY, ER 25th 1933. <br />:..'.:: a ......... u_...' a u. -. ._..... ... ,.�� ... _..... ... .... __ ..., f <br />The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, met at <br />the Court House in Vero Beach, at 4:00 o'clock P.M. Monday, September 25th 1933, with the <br />following members of the Board present: J.J.P.Hamilton, Chairman; J. D. Yongue; John M. <br />=ti <br />Knight . and Edwin A. Helseth. .Also present were miles Warren, Clerk and William Frick, <br />Sheriff. <br />The following resolution was introduced by Commissioner Helseth and moved its <br />adoption: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners that the following securities <br />be purchased, at par, from. the Florida East Coast Railway Company, to -wit: <br />J $69000.00 Public Higher bonds 5t Lucie County., <br />474.69 Wabasso Bridge District bond or coupons <br />533.72 'Sebastian Inlet bond, nate or coupons <br />+ 19801.93 Special Road & Bridge 4 bonds or coupons <br />a • 3 ,899.81. Atlantic & Gulf Road Dist bonds or coupons <br />J , 1,194.86 Fellsmere Cross State Road bonds or coupons <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that when said Railroad Company pays into the Tax Collector <br />the taxes assessed against said Company for the year 19321, that such portions of such <br />taxes necessary for the purchase of above securities be delivered by said Collector to <br />Clerk of this Board and said Clerk give his receipt therefor; <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Clerk upon the receipt of said funds and upon the <br />'delivery to said Clerk by said Florida East Coast- Railway Company of the said securities <br />or any part thereof that he be authorized and empowered to conclude said purchase of such <br />securities on behalf of this Board, said securities to be delivered to the proper auth- <br />orities for credit of the County or such Special District :for which account the same <br />was purchased. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the remainder of said 1932 taxes be forthwith delivered <br />by the Tax Collector to the proper designated County Depository. <br />Upon being put to a vote the same was unanimously adopted. <br />Ralph Sedgwick appeared before the Board regarding amounts frozen in the Farmers <br />Bank of Vero Beach and coming under the jurisdiction of this Board and the Board of <br />Administration and suggesting the settlement of same with the payments of bonds and other <br />obligations of the County. The Board instructed Mr. Sedgwick that this plan appeared <br />satisfactory and suggested that he get in proper shape and condition to make a bona fide <br />offer and same will then be approved. <br />During the progress of the meeting the Board received a telegram from Governor <br />Sholtz as follows: <br />"Yy attention just called to article your local newspaper September twenty-first <br />showing you have County Attorney who admits he had not paid his personal taxes and did not <br />intend to but willing to bring legal action against others to enforce payment (stop) You <br />are directed to advise this office promptly whether or not such is true and if so ghat <br />arrangements ..will be made to change this condition ( stop) It is inconceivable that pub - <br />lie officials drawing remuneration from public treasury should take such position. Advise, <br />It was ordered 'that the Clerk advise the Governor that the Attorney for the Board <br />of County Commissioners made no such statement to the Board. He has not paid his per- <br />sonal tax for 1932 neither has the Vero Beach Press -Journal, as well as many others. <br />Commissioner Helseth opposed such answer stating that he heard the statements made. <br />The Clerk informed the Board he would transmit. the reply by letter. <br />There being :no further business on motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />then adjourned. <br />r✓� I�J�C�Sr!/ <br />ATTEST: GCS <br />Clerk <br />
