do <br />40 <br />RESOLUT <br />ION 70- 16 <br />WHEREAS, the Porpoises and other Cetaceans of the Indian River <br />in Indian River County are an indicator of the quality of our <br />area, and <br />WHEREAS, the animals are enjoyed by residents and visitors of <br />this County, and <br />WHEREAS, there is approximately thirty percent (30%) mortality <br />of all Porpoises that are trapped and placed in captivity. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Indian River County <br />Board of County Commissioners request that the Executive Director <br />of the Florida Department of Natural Resources deny any permit <br />to remove Porpoises or any other Cetaceans from this County as <br />provided for under the Florida Statute 370.11 (3) (b). <br />AND FURTHER, that the holder of any permit issued in the past <br />be denied the right to capture and remove Porpoises or any <br />other Cetaceans in Indian River County. <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />APRIL 22, 1970 <br />
