Proclamation <br />DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 1-7,2022, AS <br />NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES WEEK <br />-Whereas, in 1984, President Reagan signed Proclamation 5187 creating "National Correctional <br />Officers Week," subsequently changed by the U.S. Senate, in 1996, to "National Correctional Officers <br />and Employees Week"; and <br />-Whereas, the first full week in May is dedicated to honor the work of Correctional Officers and <br />correctional personnel nationwide; and <br />-Whereas, today's well-trained, professional Correctional Officers and correctional personnel <br />face danger in their everyday lives; and <br />-Whereas, Indian River County's staff of Correctional Officers, Nurses, Civilian Correction <br />Assistants, and support staff serve in an increasingly arduous and complex environment, in which they <br />are called upon to simultaneously fill custodial, supervisory, and counseling roles while ensuring the <br />safety and well-being of the inmates within our county; and <br />-Whereas, the work of Correctional Officers and correctional personnel comes with the <br />challenging responsibility to help inmates develop the skills necessary to become productive members <br />of society. <br />Wow, Therefore, be it Proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, Flork" that the week of May 1-7, 2022, is designated as National <br />Correctional Officers and Employees Week, and that our local Correctional Officers and correctional <br />personnel are applauded for their hard work, dedication, and courage in performance of their <br />demanding roles to protect and enhance public safety. <br />Adopted this 3rd day of May, 2022.
