internet services, aside from an outage every now and again. The Town contracts <br />for 25 Mbps / 3 Mbps services from Comcast. The HOA was approached by Hotwire <br />Communications for fiber -based internet services, but the HOA turned it down due <br />to the 10 -year exclusive contract. <br />The residents of the Town are well served by AT&T and Comcast and the residents <br />have had no complaints about speeds or services, even COVID-19. Cellular service is <br />the major issue on the barrier island and increasing those services would be <br />welcomed by the Town on Orchid. <br />Utilities <br />The County has water and sewer services throughout much of the county footprint. <br />As stated previously, cellular service is poor throughout the county and this affects <br />the County's utility operation. Verizon has had significant growth and is <br />oversubscribed, which yields performance issues. The County has meter reading <br />being completed through Android phones and hotspots through AT&T. The <br />County's utility operations centers at 41 st and 43rd Avenues which is in the center of <br />the County. Many report that they have to leave the operations center for hotspots <br />to work properly. Utilities use SCADA on a microwave secure network and use <br />cellular for automated metering reading (AMR). <br />The Utilities were aware of where cellular works well and where it doesn't. They <br />were able to identify some areas where they are aware of gaps in cellular <br />availability: barrier islands, Windsor, some of the County parks, and Golden Sands <br />have no cellular or broadband services. Utilities are considering Advanced Metering <br />Infrastructure (AMI), which could address some of these coverage issues, but they <br />are more than five years out on decisions on this. <br />Sebastian Chamber of Commerce <br />The Sebastian Chamber of Commerce has over 370 members ranging from big <br />corporations, to waste management to small businesses. They have a lot of <br />tourism, restaurants, hotels, small businesses, along with the Indian River Hospital <br />and Sebastian Hospital. <br />While the contact that Magellan spoke with could not quote any specific complaints <br />from businesses in the area, she did state that services are typically slow and <br />services at her office go down more than they should.
