40 <br />• <br />• <br />RES OLUT ION 70-48 <br />WHEREAS, the Vegetable Industry of Florida is a multimillion <br />dollar business with tomatoes and strawberries being a major <br />commodity. <br />WHEREAS, the continued increase in importation of tomatoes <br />and strawberries from Mexico constitutes a most serious threat <br />to our agri-business economy which cannot compete because of <br />wage differential between Mexican and American workers. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF' COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA IN REGULAR <br />MEETING ASSEMBLED THIS 22ND DAY OF OCTOBER, 1970. <br />That the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County does hereby respectfully request- the Congress of the <br />United States of America to take whatever action is available <br />and appropriate to protect our Vegetable Industry in the United <br />States from drastic consequences of the unlimited importation of <br />tomatoes and strawberries from Mexico. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this <br />Resolution be furnished to the Honorable Spessard L. Holland, <br />United States Senator; the IIonorable Edward J.
