BOX 1587, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA 32960 <br />J �O OFFICIAL CRUSADE PROCLAMATION FOR 1971 <br />WHEREAS, there are more than 1,500,000 Americans alive today, <br />who have been cured of cancer, and <br />WHEREAS, 25 years ago fewer than one -in -five cancer patients was <br />being saved. Today, one out of three is cured of cancer, and <br />WHEREAS, one out of two cancer patients can be cured with present <br />i <br />knowledge and methods of treatment, if diagnosed in time and properly <br />treated, and <br />WHEREAS, an annual physical checkup and knowled;e of the Seven <br />Warning Signals of cancer, popularized by the American Cancer Society, <br />can help save thousands of lives from cancer, and <br />L; <br />WH&4EAS, some cancers can be prevented; most lung cancers are <br />caueed by cigarette smoking, and most skin cancers by frequent exposure <br />to direct sunlight, and <br />WHEREAS, public education can help save thousands of lives now <br />being lost to preventable cancers, and <br />WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society has produced life-saving <br />leaflets about the checkup and the Seven Warning Signals, that are <br />being distributed to the people of Indian River County, and <br />WHEREAS. the Amerloan Cancer Soolety is etepping up its research <br />efforts in the searoh for causes and cures of cancer. <br />Therefore, BE IT iEI.OLV»D -- <br />That all residents of this county be urged to support the <br />educational enc f-unEl m'ping efforts of the American Cancer Society <br />as part of Cancer Control Month in April. <br />Done under my hand this le day <br />of 4-I416hof-in the year of our Lord, <br />One Thousand Nine Hundred and <br />Seventy -One. <br />Chairman.
