R E S O L U T I O N 71-63 <br />RESOULTION RECOGNIZING THE PUBLIC NEED <br />FOR FLOOD INSURANCE AND AUTHORIZING THE <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO TAKE <br />WHATEVER ACTION IT DEEMS NECESSARY TO <br />COMPLY WITH FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County, Florida, recognizes there is a public need for flood insurance <br />and hereby desires to express a positive interest in the Flood Insurance <br />Program and further agrees to take such official action as may be <br />necessary to comply with the criteria of the Program, and <br />WHEREAS, areas of Indian River County, Florida, are subject <br />to flooding and flood damage, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County <br />Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, in regular meeting <br />duly assembled this 8th day of December, 1971, that: <br />1. In addition to measures already existing, the Indian River <br />County Board of County Commissioners will implement measures it <br />determines necessary to recognize and evaluate flood hazards in all <br />actions relating to land use in the flood plain areas. <br />2. It will continue to maintain in force for those areas, land use <br />and control measures with effective enforcement provisions. <br />3. It will cooperate with neighboring jurisdictions with respect <br />to adjoining drainage areas and flood plains in order to prevent the <br />aggravation of the flooding problem. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Indian River will <br />continue, to the maximum extent feasible, to: <br />1. Constrict the development of land which is exposed to flood <br />damage where appropriate. <br />2. Guide the development of proposed construction away from <br />locations which are threatened by flood hazards. <br />
