® veterinarian to observe or treat any such animal, and any <br />other impounded animal believed to have rabies or other <br />sWinfectious or contagious disease, at the expense of the <br />owner or keeper and to destroy any such animal without <br />compensation to the owner or keeper upon certification by <br />the attending veterinarian that the continued existence <br />of such animal jeopardizes public health, safety and <br />welfare.If it does not appear that the continued existence <br />of such animal jeopardizes public health, safety or welfare, <br />the said Society shall return such animal to the person, firm, <br />or corporation owning, possessing, harboring, keeping or <br />maintaining the same upon payment of accrued fees or charges. <br />The said Society is hereby granted discretionary authority <br />to immediately and humanely destroy or otherwise dispose of <br />any such sick or diseased animal whose condition is such <br />that its continued existence would be inhumane. <br />9. Said Society is hereby authoritzed to charge <br />for receiving, catching, picking up, impounding, boarding <br />and keeping any animal sought to be redeemed the following <br />fees and charges: <br />Two Dollars ($2.00) per day or fraction of a day <br />which the said Board hereby authorizes said Society to retain <br />as partial compensation for services rendered by said Society <br />on behalf of said Board. The said Society is hereby further <br />authorized to retain as partial compensation for services <br />rendered by said Society on behalf of said Board any sums <br />which said Society may receive as payment for any animal_ <br />not redeemed which the Society elects to sell rather than <br />to destroy. The said Society is hereby authorized to require, <br />as a condition to the redemption of any impounded animal, <br />that the owner or keeper pay the reasonable fees of any vet- <br />erinarian who rendered services for such animal at the request <br />of the said Society. <br />-39 - <br />
