B. in order to protect the berms and to create, safer access <br />to, the Wetland, it is necessary to extend the walkway by <br />approximately 600 L.F. and construct an observation <br />platform. Both the walkway and the platform ..will be used <br />for County maintenance personnel and limited public <br />access to the site and observation area for various <br />activities by the Environmental Learning Center. The <br />cost for this is $35,161. <br />C. In an effort to balance out the type of vegetation in the <br />cells it is necessary to add 50 additional Cypress trees <br />at a cost of $13.00 per tree, for a total cost of <br />$650.00. <br />D. To prevent erosion in the Deep Pond, it is necessary to <br />construct a fabriform embankment at a cost of $3,980.00. <br />E. To reduce the costs involved with this project, the Staff <br />is recommending a reduction of $101,283 of fencing cost <br />and to contract directly with the fence contractor for an <br />amount of $87,077.50. This price represents 7,350 L.F. <br />of fence and two (2 ) twenty foot gates. The price is <br />based on $11.65/foot of fence and $725 per gate. The <br />total will be adjusted based on as -built conditions. <br />This represents a savings of approximately $14,205.50. <br />E. The Department is also recommending to allow the <br />contractor to perform the necessary work to create- the <br />Wetland mitigation construction of approximately 7.5 <br />acres in South County on Old Dixie Highway. This cost is <br />estimated to be $56,070 and will be paid by the Solid <br />Waste Disposal District. It should be noted that the <br />Public Works Department will be proposing some drainage <br />improvements for this project area to resolve the current <br />flooding problem across Old Dixie Highway. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The staff of the Department of Utility Services recommends that the <br />Board of County Commissioners approve Change Order No. 2 and fence <br />purchase as follows: <br />1. Relocation of Power Poles - <br />$ 23,399.00 <br />2. Construction of Walkway/Platform- <br />$ 35,161.00 <br />3. Reduction in cost of Fence - <br /><$101,283.00> <br />4. Actual Fence Purchase - <br />$ 87,077.50 <br />5. Pipe Discharge Stabilization - <br />$ 3,980.00 <br />6. Additional Cypress Trees - <br />$ 650.00 <br />7.
