ProcCamatw"n 5E <br />DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 23-30, 2022 <br />AS NATIONAL BEACH SAFETY WEEK <br />-Whereas, the beautiful coastal and inland beaches of Indian River County represent a world- <br />renowned recreational resource; and <br />-Whereas, residents and visitors alike are drawn to these beaches by the millions each year for water <br />and beach activities; and <br />^Whereas, the aquatic environment has dangers, particularly rip currents, that can be effectively <br />managed through public awareness and the vigilance of professional lifeguards; and <br />-Whereas, for reasons of public safety, an annual reminder of the joys and hazards associated with <br />the aquatic environment are appropriate at the commencement of the busy summer beach season; and <br />-Whereas, residents and visitors alike must remember to: Learn to swim, never swim alone, swim <br />near a lifeguard, learn rip -current safety, never drink alcohol before swimming, life jackets save lives, <br />observe signs & flags, use sunscreen and drink water, respect the power of the surf; and <br />-Whereas, our local Ocean Rescue Lifeguards and all swim instructors throughout the County area <br />are applauded for their hard work, dedication, and courage in performance of their efforts and roles to <br />enhance and promote safe enjoyment of our local beaches and ocean waters. <br />Naw, Therefore, be it Proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Infian River County, Flor%cia, that the week of May 23-30, 2022 be designated as National Beach <br />Safety Week, and urge all residents using our beaches to enjoy themselves at the beach this year while <br />taking appropriate measures to protect themselves and their children. <br />Adopted this 17th day of May, 2022.
