RESOLUTION 2021- 084 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICTS FOLLOWING THE 2020 DECENNIAL CENSUS WHEREAS, in 2021, the United States Census Bureau completed the 2020 decennial census; and WHEREAS,article VIII,section(1)(e)of the Florida Constitution provides that after each decennial census, the Board of County Commissioners shall divide the county into districts of contiguous territory as nearly equal in population as practicable; and WHEREAS, section 124.01, Florida Statutes, provides that (1) there shall be five county commissioners' districts in each county,which shall be as nearly equal in proportion to population as possible,and(2)changes in the boundaries of commissioner districts shall be made only in odd- numbered years; and WHEREAS, on August 17, 2021, the Board adopted the 2021 Redistricting Plan which established criteria, procedures and a schedule for the redistricting process, and WHEREAS, the Board has engaged in a thorough, open and transparent redistricting process, which has included,among other things,posting information and proposed boundaries on the County's website and at various locations throughout the County; working with the Supervisor of Elections and the School District; holding a community workshop; and holding multiple public hearings,all for the purpose of informing the public and receiving input from the public concerning redistricting issues, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY,FLORIDA,THAT: 1. In accordance with article VIII, section (1)(e) of the Florida Constitution and section 124.01, Florida Statutes, the Board hereby establishes the boundaries of county commissioners' districts as set forth in the map attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and the legal descriptions attached hereto as Composite"B." 2. An accurate description of the boundaries of the county commissioners' districts shall be entered upon the minutes of the Board of County Commissioners, and a certified copy thereof shall be published at least once each week 'for two consecutive weeks in the Indian River Press Journal. Proof of such publication shall then be entered into the minutes of the Board.
