RESOLUTION 87- 47 <br />• A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO ADOPT <br />LEGISLATION GRANTING COUNTIES THE AUTHORITY TO IMPOSE LOCAL <br />OPTION TAXES FOR FUNDING INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS; PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />404 <br />WHEREAS, the State of Florid; has mandated that all local jurisdictions <br />comply with the provisions of Section 163.3161, Florida Statutes, the "Local <br />Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act"; and <br />WHEREAS, compliance by Indian River County will require additional expen- <br />ditures for infrastructure needs within the County; and, <br />WHEREAS, the County is faced with ever increasing demands for services <br />with limited or no new revenue sources, <br />NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, Florida: <br />1. The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida urges the State Legislature to enact legislation <br />granting Counties the authority to impose local option <br />sales taxes and gasoline taxes by a majority vote of the <br />local elected body. <br />2. The Board hereby directs staff to prepare a letter for- <br />mally transmitting intentions of the Board to this area's <br />Legislative Delegation, the President of the Senate, the <br />Speaker of the House, and the Governor, and that staff use <br />other available means to express the Board's intent. <br />3.
