® M <br />Tuesday, January 2, 1996 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, met in Regular Session at the County Commission Chambers, <br />1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, January 2, 1996, <br />at 9:00 a.m. Present were Kenneth R. Macht, Chairman; Fran B. <br />Adams, Vice Chairman; Richard N. Bird; Carolyn K. Eggert; and John <br />W. Tippin. Also present were James E. Chandler, County <br />Administrator; Charles P. Vitunac, County Attorney; and Barbara <br />Bonnah, Deputy Clerk. <br />Chairman Macht called the meeting to order and led the Pledge <br />of Allegiance to the Flag before reporting that a terrible car <br />accident earlier this morning had resulted in the death of two <br />small children who were not secured in car seats. Chairman Macht <br />requested that Administrator Chandler work with Emergency Services <br />to have a video shown on the government channel informing people of <br />the availability of children's car seats and compliance with the <br />law. <br />CHAIRMAN'S COADIENTS <br />Chairman Macht thanked the Commission members for their <br />cooperation during the past year; he looked forward to a new year <br />with a new chairman. <br />Commissioner Eggert felt Chairman Macht did an excellent job, <br />especially under the circumstances of having lost his wife, Irene. <br />Commissioners Adams, Bird and Tippin also expressed their <br />appreciation for a job well done. <br />ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN <br />Chairman Macht opened the floor for nominations for Chairman <br />of the Board of County Commissioners for 1996. Commissioner Eggert <br />nominated Commissioner Adams as Chairman for 1996 and Commissioner <br />Tippin seconded the nomination.
