•o <br />RESOLUTION No. 74-86 <br />WHEREAS, the number of bicyclists has grown in the <br />40 <br />past few years to more than 85 million enthusiasts <br />representing every section of this country; and <br />WHEREAS, the advent of concern for the environment <br />has motivated the American citizenry to consider modes of <br />transportation which are less susceptible to polluting <br />the atmosphere; and <br />WHEREAS, the problems associated with the national <br />and international energy crisis suggest that means <br />of transportation, which do not make heavy demands on <br />critical fuel oil products, must be more extensively <br />employed; and <br />WHEREAS, these factors have contributed to the current <br />influx of bicycle drivers in our local area and adds <br />another dimension to the safe conduct of traffic on <br />the county's roadways; and <br />WHEREAS, many communities and organizations are <br />dedicating some of their resources to assisting bicycle <br />enthusiasts in securing appropriate machines, maintaining <br />these machines in proper working order and becoming safe <br />and effective drivers in and out of traffic. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of <br />County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, that it <br />does hereby name and declare the MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 1974 <br />as BICYCLE SAFETY MONTH,and call upon all local citizens <br />to join with the Indian River Safety Council in promoting <br />implementation of the series of activities planned for <br />the period. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF IND //NJJ RIVE C " ]TY % RIDA <br />By <br />Alma Lee Loy, Chairma} <br />Attest:i?�,��1���/7�. <br />Clek" <br />Dated this 7th day of November, 1974. <br />
