INDIAN RIVER COUNTY NONPROFIT / QUASI AGENCY REQUEST FOR FUNDING <br />B. Organization Capability (Continued) <br />4. How does your program differ from similar ones provided in the community? How do the programs <br />omplement those ottered by other agencies? <br />There are no similar programs or agencies offering after school academic enhancement for youth in <br />addition to programs and activities for adults and senior citizens. GYAC provides services in the Gifford <br />community while providing programs and activities for youth and adults from all areas of the County. <br />The after-school program provides educational activities, cultural and recreational activities, character <br />enhancement and counseling activities to students and their families. A focus on education continues <br />during the summer program, which provides educational activities in the mornings and recreational <br />activities in the afternoon. <br />The Beyond Special K (BSK) Program, which serves adults and senior citizens, provides educational, <br />recreational, and social activities on a weekly basis: Activities include educational workshops, <br />sewing/art & crafts, intergenerational activities, and aerobics. These activities, being offered at one <br />location, makes GYAC unique from similar organizations/programs in this community. <br />5. Please describe the staffing requirements of these programs. Be specific in indicating the number of <br />ald professional positions and paid support staff positions. <br />1 -Executive Director (FT); 1 - Youth Program Director (FT); 1 -Executive Assistant (FT); 1 -Director of <br />Public Relations & Facilities Operations (FT); 1 — Director of Philanthropy (FT); 1 — Marketing <br />Coordinator (FT); 1 — Guidance Counselor (FT); 1 -Volunteer Coordinator (FT); 1- Accounting/HR <br />Specialist (FT); 1 -Receptionist (FT); 1 -Beyond Special K Coordinator (FT); 15 -Teachers (PT); 4 - <br />Recreation Assistants (PT), 1 - Computer Lab Instructor, and 2 - Student Assistants. <br />o. uo mese programs urulze volunteers:1 It yes please bnetly describe. <br />GYAC utilizes volunteers for a variety of its programs and activities. Volunteers and tutors provide <br />valuable services such as reading tutors, classroom assistants, recreation assistants, chaperoning, and <br />one-on-one tutoring. GYAC has a core group of individuals that volunteer their time regularly. The <br />Volunteer Coordinator works diligently to recruit and retain volunteers. <br />/. uescnption of the countywide purpose the funds will be used for. <br />The Gifford Youth Achievement Center will use the funds to help provide a wide array of educational, <br />social, recreational and cultural programs and activities for youth and adults/senior citizens. Programs <br />and activities are.offered to youth and adults of Indian River County regardless of where they live. It is <br />our belief that through these activities, we will enhance our support for youth and adults academically, <br />socially, behaviorally, emotionally, physically, and mentally which will improve their lives. <br />197 <br />
