According to
United Way's ALICE report for Indian River County, the household survival budget for a family of
four is $60,696 which is approximately 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL). Criteria of other
SR programs only allow RCMA to serve families with incomes up to 150% of FPL. The children
of families that fall between 150% and 200% of poverty level desperately need access to
affordable licensed, high-quality early childhood settings. This partnership is vital. While Childcare
Resources is providing services for many families, they are not able to reach the more remote
areas such as Fellsmere. As such RCMA covers those.
This partnership provides quality early childhood education to low-income families throughout the
county that make more than 150% of the poverty level but less than or equal to 200%. RCMA and
Childcare Resources seek CSAC funding to continue addressing child-care needs and support
services to include but not limited to direct slot payments as well as operational expenses
associated with serving families that fall within the ALICE income range. These families work in
landscaping companies, restaurants, the health center, and the Aquaculture plant and so on.
Without this program, their children are missing out on a safe place for them to learn and develop
when they need it most. This collaboration has proven to be successful, RCMA and Childcare
Resources look forward to strengthening the program.
The projected number of unduplicated children to be served is two hundred twenty-five (225).
