EXHIBIT A
CHILDREN'S SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
2022-23 GRANT APPLICATION
Agency Name:
Youth Guidance Donation Fund of Indian River County, Inc.
Address:
1028 20th Place, Vero Beach, FL, 32960, US
Executive Director:
Phil Barnes
Email:
pbarnes@youthguidanceprogram.org
Phone:
(772) 492-3933
Program Director:
Drew Edgcomb
Email:
aedgcomb@youthguidanceprogram.org
Phone:
(772) 492-3933
Program(s) Name:
The Mentoring Academy
Focus Area(s):
Quality Academic Remediation and Enrichment
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Youth Guidance is the longest running mentoring program in Indian River County, providing
positive adult role models for children from low-income families since 1973. When children enter
our doors, they receive up to three meals a day, gain access to caring mentors, and participate in
positive programs to identify a pathway out of poverty.
All programs and meals are completely free for children. Our services are delivered through two
components:
1. Group Mentoring - Children participate in small group activities led by a part-time Group Leader
and adult mentors. All mentors and staff must pass a Level 2 Background Check and complete
our Mentor Training Modules. We strive for an intimate ratio of 1 adult per 4 students. Children
develop life skills, positive academic habits, job skills, and civic engagement. Activities include:
Tutoring, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), life skills, vocational training,
sports, and community service.
2. One -on -One Mentoring - Our one-on-one mentoring program pairs a caring adult mentor with
a child, offering the opportunity for an even more meaningful relationship. Many of our success
stories stem from our one-on-one mentoring program. We often hear from one-on-one mentors
that they still keep in touch with their mentees long after they have aged out of our program - in
some cases 20 years later or more!
The projected number of unduplicated children to be served is two hundred sixty-five (265) and
ten (10) adults.
