RESOLUTION <br />d <br />A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A TASK FORCE <br />COMMITTEE FOR IMMEDIATE STUDY, LOCATIONS, <br />40 FINANCING AND IMPLEMGNTATIO,V OF LOW COST <br />HOUSING; ESTABLISHING THE TYPES OF REP- <br />RESENTATIVES TO CONSTITUTE THE SAID COM- <br />MITTEE; REQUESTING THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />COMMISSION TO ADOPT ASSISTING RESOLUTIONS <br />AND DESIGNATING AN IMMEDIATE DISCUSSION <br />MEETING. <br />WHEREAS, the need for the purchase or rental of low cost housing <br />in the City of Vero Beach and Indian River County, Florida, is acute, <br />resulting in extreme hardship for low and median income employees and <br />their families; and <br />WHEREAS, the lack of low cost housing discourages industry from <br />locating in the City of Vera Beach and Indian River County, and one in- <br />dustry presently located therein, The Piper Aircraft Company, is limiting <br />plant expansion, due to the inability of its employees to find affordable <br />housing; and <br />WHEREAS, the economy of the aforementioned area is experiencing a <br />recession and a clear and present need exists to stimulate the building <br />industry, whereby jobs would be created and a flow of money would be real- <br />ized by the business community, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />VERO BEACH, that the City Council calls upon the citizens of Vero Beach <br />and Indian River County and their duly elected officials and the business <br />community and its leaders to join in an all out effort to seek out and <br />find the solution to the need for low cost housing by establishing a TASK <br />FORCE COMMITTEE FOR LOW COST HOUSING as hereinafter constituted, to com- <br />mence immediately to study the need; to locate and determine the avail- <br />ability of and the cost of suitable land for such housing; to recommend <br />the most suitable type of construction and to determine the means of <br />financing low cost housing in the City - County area. <br />The TASK FORCE COMMITTEE FOR LOW COST HOUSING shall consist of eight <br />members as follows: <br />1. A member of the Indian River County Commission. <br />2. A member of the Vero Beach City Council. <br />t* <br />
