<br />RESOLUTION NO. 76-90
<br />WHEREAS, by Resolution 75-67 the Board of County Commissioners
<br />of Indian River County pursuant to Florida Statule 125,60-64 (197 5)
<br />established a thirteen member Charter Commission to study and make
<br />recommendations to the citi.:.eus of Indian Hive. County regarding
<br />the most economical, e1''ficient and effective forlll of home rule v`
<br />government, arid,
<br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Indian River County Resolution 75-67 Sherman r>"Z)
<br />N. Smith, Jr. , received appointment as one of the thirteen Charter
<br />Commission members, and,
<br />WHEREAS, Sherman N. Smith, Jr. , served as Vice -Chairman of the
<br />Charter Commission with great distinction, and,
<br />WHEREAS, the Charter Commission under- the co -leadership of Sherman `
<br />N. Smith, Jr., conducted a comprehensive study of the operation of �^
<br />county government and as Chairman of the Legcl Committee analyzed G�~J
<br />in depth methods to improve and reorganize our local government for
<br />the benefit of all citizens in Indian River County, and,
<br />WHEREAS, after long hours of study, organization meetings with Sub -
<br />Committees, assimilation of material, preparation of tentative drafts,
<br />debates, and public hearings the Commission completed the final
<br />Charter Document, submitting it to the Board of County Commissioners
<br />for Indian River County or, September 1, 1976, and,
<br />WHEREAS, although the results of the Charter Referendum were
<br />I'll suceessful the citizens of Indian River County owe a great debt of
<br />appreciation to Sherman N. Smith, Jr. , for his diligent efforts and
<br />service to our community and county government.
<br />NOW, TURME •ORE, Bls IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
<br />Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, that the Board
<br />extends its appreciation and honors Sherman N. Smith, Jr., on behalf
<br />of the citizens of Indian River County for his contribution and
<br />diligent effort as Vice -Chairman of the Charter Commission and
<br />Chairman of the Legal Committee.
