EXHIBIT A
CHILDREN'S SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
2022-23 GRANT APPLICATION
Agency Name: Education Foundation of Indian River County, Inc.
Address: PO Box 7046, Vero Beach, FL, 32961, US
Executive Director: Heidi Leone
Email: Heidi.Leone@edfoundationirc.org
Phone: (772) 564-0034
Program Director: Karen Malits
Email: karen.malits@indianriverschools.org
Phone: (772) 564-3038
Program(s) Name: STEP into Kindergarten
Focus Area(s): Early Childhood Development
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Education Foundation of Indian River County (EFIRC), in partnership with the School District
of Indian River County (SDIRC), seeks to increase kindergarten readiness rates for 4 and 5 year
old children by providing an evidence -based program that extends learning to help mitigate the
negative effects of the summer slide and promote a smooth transition to kindergarten for students
and families. Considering the kindergarten readiness gap between children of means and
children of poverty, program priority is given to children identified as homeless, migrant, or
residing in school zones with the highest poverty rates. The program will take place in June and
July of 2023, with site locations at select elementary schools within the School District of Indian
River County. Daily schedules will replicate the kindergarten instructional day. Students will
attend from 8:00-3:00 each day. The projected number of unduplicated children to be served is
two hundred twenty-five (225).
