EXHIBIT A <br />SUBGRANTEE RESOLUrION No.79-64 <br />WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, herein called the "Applicant" after thorough consideration of <br />the problem and available data, has heieby determined that the project <br />described below is in the best interests of the general public: <br />To establish a shelter for battered spouses and their <br />children who choose to be removed from a potentially or <br />actually dangerous domestic situation. This will provide <br />local law enforcement with the option of referring spouse <br />abuse victims to a shelter, thereby decreasing the possi- <br />bility that they will again be recalled to that have for <br />additional domestic disturbance calls. <br />Individual as well as group counseling will be provided <br />and the maxumun stay will be six (6) weeks. Counseling will <br />be directed towards fostering awareness of individual capa- <br />bilities and responsibilities. Full utilization will be <br />made of presently existing community resources. <br />The shelter staff will work in conjunction with local <br />law enforcement agencies to provide valid statistics and <br />improved abilities to deal with this difficult problem of <br />spouse abuse. <br />WHEREAS, under terms of Public Law 90-351, as amended, the United <br />States of America has authorized the Law Enforcement Assistance Admini- <br />stration, through the Florida Bureau of Criminal Justice Planning and <br />Assistance, to make Federal Grants to assist local governments in the <br />improvement of criminal justice; and <br />WHEREAS, the Applicant has examined and duly considered such Act <br />t� <br />and the Applicant- considers it Eo be in the public interest and to its <br />benefit to file an application under said Act and to authorize other <br />action in connection therewith; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF OOUNTY CC1*8rI[SSIONERS OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN OPEN METHC A.SSDIBLED I14 TILE CITY OF <br />VERO BEACH, FLORIDA, ME 5th DAY OF ma ,1979, AS FOLM4S: <br />PACT.
