FF-_ <br />6®k 57 ®eye, qlb <br />Tuesday, March 5, 1996 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, met in Regular Session at the County Commission Chambers, <br />1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, March 5, 1996, <br />at 9:00 a.m. Present were Fran B. Adams, Chairman; Carolyn K. <br />Eggert, Vice Chairman; Richard N. Bird; Kenneth R. Macht; and John <br />W. Tippin. Also present were James E. Chandler, County <br />Administrator; Charles P. Vitunac, County Attorney; and Patricia <br />Ridgely, Deputy Clerk. <br />The Chairman called the meeting to order, and Commissioner <br />Eggert led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />PROCLAMATION - WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH <br />There was no one present to receive the proclamation; it was <br />subsequently mailed to Carol Jean Jordan. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DES = GNAT S NG THE MONTH <br />OF MARCH AS <br />•• Womazl • s His tory MorztYz •• <br />WHEREAS, American women of every race, class, and ethnic <br />background have made historic contributions to the growth and <br />strength of our Nation in countless recorded and unrecorded ways; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, American women have played and continue to play a <br />critical economic, cultural, and social sols in every sphere of the <br />life of the Nation by constituting a significant portion of the <br />labor force working inside and outside of the homal end <br />WHEREAS, American women of every race, clans, and ethnic <br />background served as early leaders in the forefront of every major <br />progressive social change movement) and <br />WHEREAS, women's history is of special importance to Indian <br />River County and particularly to the City of Fellsmere which was the <br />first municipality in the state of Florida to recognize women's <br />right to vote; and <br />WHEREAS, despite these contributions, the role of American <br />women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued, <br />in the literature, teaching and study of American history; and <br />WHEREAS, the Congress of the United states in an effort to maks <br />everyone aware of women's history has declared the month of March <br />"Woman's History Month," <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it Proclaimed by the Board of county <br />Commissioners of Indian River county, Florida that the mouth of <br />March is hereby declared -4M M'S HISTORY MONTH" in Indian River <br />County and all citizens of the County are urged to make a conscious <br />effort during this month to learn and understand the great contri- <br />butions given to this Country and County by women. <br />APPROVED and ADOPTED on this 5 day of March, 1996. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />BY\ r n S.
