WHEREAS, on October 20, 1977 the Board of County Commission <br />of Indian River County, Florida, along with other local officials, <br />conducted a ground-breaking ceremony with the various representati <br />from the Department of Transportation, District 4, preceding the <br />'commencement of construction on the 17th Street Bridgei and <br />WHEREAS, it was only through the efforts and cooperation of <br />Department of Transportation, Dictrict 4, that Indian River <br />my was able to obtain a badly needed second span across the <br />ian River; and <br />WHEREAS, efforts have been underway since 1968 for the con- C <br />struction of a new bridge and only,through the diligence, cooperatigg <br />,expertise and cpnsistent support from the Department of Transportatio <br />District 4, did the bridge become a reality; and C <br />WHEREAS, the District Engineers involved both preceding and <br />ring the construction of the 4,730 foot span were ARNOLD RAMOS, <br />N C. SIMPSON AND WILLIAM K. "BILL" FOWLER; and <br />WHEREAS, JOHN C. GOODKNIGHT served as Deputy District <br />ineer during the entire planning, location and construction <br />ses; and <br />WHEREAS, on December 19, 1979 the long awaited and badly <br />needed bridge was opened for public traffic available for the use <br />and benefit of all citizens and visitors of Indian River County; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />POMMI,SSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board <br />honors the Department of Transportation, District 4, its District <br />engineers, ARNOLD RAMOS, BEN C. SIMPSON and WILLIAM K. "BILL" <br />FOWLER, and its Deputy District Engineer JOHN C. GOODKNIGHT; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that without the support and <br />Nncouragment of the Department of Transportation, District 4, the <br />adl.y needed causeway would not have been as expeditiously com- <br />pleted for the benefit of Indian River County. <br />Said Resolution shall become effective as of the 27th <br />Y of Aucrust , 1980. <br />X 6 <br />A(Chairw_,Courty comrni •i ers <br />
