F, <br />BOOK 97 fAEE 5'12 <br />PROCLAMATION - TREASURE COAST COMIUMMY AIDS <br />NETWORK & LEMWALK '96 <br />Chairman Adams read and presented the following proclamation <br />to Greg Roche, Area Chairman of TCCAN. <br />PROCLAMATION ' ' <br />WHEREAS, the Treasure Coast Community AIDS Network (TCCAN) is a not-for-profit, <br />community based organization working with and for people challenged by HIV/AIDS to improve their <br />quality of life, without regard to race, religion, age, lifestyle or ability to pay; and <br />WHEREAS, TCCAN provides services, education and advocacy for men, wotffen and children <br />living with HIV disease, through case management, for the four counties in HRS District 15; and <br />WHEREAS, TCCAN was incorporated in July of 1990, created as a response to the growing <br />AIDS and HIV+ population in the four county area of Indian Riva, Martin, Okeechobee and St Lucie; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, The Center for Disease Control projects 40 trillion people will be infected with <br />the HIV/AIDS virus by the year 2,000, and the number of people diagnosed with the virus in the United <br />States continues to increase, with an estimated I in 250 Americans currently HIV positive and over 118 <br />AIDS cases reported in Indian River County as of December 31,1995; and <br />WHEREAS, TCCAN believes it is the shared responsibility of individuals, families, community <br />and government to increase awareness and take part in activities to challenge the further spread of <br />HIV/AIDS here on our Treasure Coast; and <br />WHEREAS, a LIFEWALK '96 is being sponsored in the four counties, and will be held in <br />Indian River County at Riverside Park on Sunday, March 24, 1996 from 9:00 am. to 12:30 p.m. <br />Registration opens at 8:30 am.: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Florida that <br />LIFEWALK '96 <br />will be held on Sunday, March 24, 1996 in Indian River County, and the Board urges the community <br />to join in one voice of compassion and commitment to help make strides to support people with <br />HIV/AIDS. <br />Adopted this 19 day of March, 1996. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />F <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />V IQn1_ <br />Fran B.
