BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUN`T'Y, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, THE HOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVIER <br />COUNTY, FLORIDA has, for many years, been attempting to secure <br />the Vero Beach Tracking Station for the purpose of a public park <br />to serve the citizens of Indian River County, Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, in March of 1970 the County was awarded a portion of <br />e Vero Beach Tracking Station; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1971 Indian River County made application to the <br />al Services Administration for the acquisition of the r.emaini <br />on of the Vero Beach Tracking Station; and <br />WHEREAS, in February of 1972, THE HONORABLE LAWTON CIIILES, <br />United States Senator, made a commitment to Indian River County to <br />assist the County in obtaining the remaining portion of the Vero <br />Beach Tracking Station; and <br />WHEREAS, THE HONORABLE LAWTON CHILES, together with his <br />Administrative Assistant, RICK FARRELL, weekly monitored Indian <br />River County's progress and whenever asked provided able assistanc <br />and direction to the County; and <br />WHEREAS, in February of .1977 THE HONORABLE LAWTON CHILES call <br />a meeting of all interested parties (both State and Federal) to <br />expedite the declaration of the Tr.ackinq_ Station as excess Federal. <br />property; and <br />WHEREAS, on October 23, 1.980 Indian River. County received and <br />accepted the Deed, conveying the remaining portion of the Vero Bea <br />Tracking Station, from the United States Department of the Interic <br />Heritage Conservation and Recreat.i.on Service; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RF.SOLVI:D I3Y THE BOARD OF COUNTY COM- <br />MISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, that the Board, on behalf of <br />itself and the citizenry of Indian River County, takes this <br />opportunity to thank THE HONORABLE LAWTON CHILLS for the dedicatic <br />he has shown in assisting Indian River County to finally achieve i <br />goal of obtaining the remaining portion of the Vero Beach Trackinc_ <br />Station; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board reaffirms the commitm( <br />on behalf of. Indian River County to develop the Vero Beach Tracki► <br />Station property for public park and recreational purposes. <br />a1Vf:k <br />************ <br />Said Resolution shall become effective as <br />the 5th day of November —, 1980. <br />
