RESOLUTION NO. 81-1.5 <br />WHEREAS, the BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY, FLORIDA, at their meeting on March 11,1981, discussed <br />the impact of substantial population increases on the South <br />Barrier Island in both Indian River and St. Lucie Counties, <br />North of the St. Lucie Inlet; and <br />WHEREAS, it is not the purpose of this Resolution to deter <br />development within St. Lucie County but only to point out certain <br />limitations of A -1-A and the North bridge in St. Lucie County; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Indian River County Comprehensive Plan contemplates <br />a density of three (3) units per acre and a height of thirty-five (35) <br />feet on the Barrier Island South of the South City limits of the <br />City of Vero Beach to the North County line of St. Lucie County; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County <br />i a rnnnerneA ahCa the c fec <br />s on traffic flows wlLhil Indian River <br />County if there is a need for evacuation from St. Lucie County re- <br />sulting from a pending natural disaster or civil emergency; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COM- <br />MISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that a question is raised <br />as to the ability of A -1-A and the St. Lucie County North bridge to <br />handle substantial increases in traffic flow resulting from either <br />evacuation because of pending natural disaster or civil emergency, <br />or increased density resulting from high-rise multi -family structures <br />and increase of commercial densities within the limited area of the <br />North Barrier Island in St. Lucie County; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board requests development on the <br />North Beach of St. Lucie County on the Barrier Island be reviewed <br />by the appropriate governmental officials taking into consideration <br />the limitations that exist as to access to and from the Barrier <br />
