RESOLUTION NO. 81- 64 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County, Florida has made diligent efforts to improve the jail <br />facility, bringing said facility up to minimum State standards; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, representatives of the County have met with various <br />State correction and health officials to isolate problem areas <br />and cure them; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners established the <br />Indian River County Safety Committee and appointed well-qualified <br />County residents to serve on the Committee; and <br />WHEREAS, the Indian River County Safety Committee has met on <br />numerous occasions and made initial recommendations to the Board; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners has agreed to <br />additional funding to the Sheriff's Office in order to meet State <br />personnel requirements for County jails; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners has established a <br />procedure for retaining an architect to draft plans to implement <br />structural changes at the jail recommended by State, County <br />and the Indian River County Safety Committee officials; and <br />WHEREAS, designated County officials will be attending the <br />National Institute of Jails, special Seminar "Planning for <br />a New Institution" in Boulder, Colorado from November 8 through <br />November 14, 1981; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the established goal of the Board of County <br />Commissioners to construct a new jail facility with the aid of <br />State funding within a five (5) year time frame; <br />NOW, TIIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIIE BOARD OF COUNTY COM- <br />MISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board <br />hereby adopts this Resolution establishing steps it has taken <br />to date and will take in the future to meet State standards <br />for county jail facilities; and <br />
