U. S. Highway #1 will open a more direct avenue for this eastbound <br />flow, and will. help make possible an improved and less hazardous <br />use of the present 6th Avenue U. S. Highway #1 intersection; and <br />WHEREAS, this extension of 8th Street as a secondary <br />collector is consistent with the transportation element of the <br />proposed Comprehensive Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, this proposed extension cannot take place <br />unless and until the County has acquired the necessary eighty <br />(801) foot width of right-of-way; and <br />WHEREAS, fee simple ownership of the property across <br />which this extension is proposed is privately owned; and, in order <br />to acquire subject right-of-way, it is necessary for. the County <br />Engineer and County Attorney to take legal action, employ real <br />estate appraisers, and do all such further acts as may be reason- <br />ably required. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />1. The foregoing recitals are adopted and ratified in <br />-1- <br />RESOLUTION NO. 82-49 <br />® <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE <br />ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN PARCELS OF PROPERTY FOR <br />RIGHT-OF-WAY PURPOSES FOR THE EXTENSION OF <br />8TH STREET IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO BE <br />A PUBLIC NECESSITY AND AUTHORIZING THE PREPARATION <br />AND PROSECUTION OF EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDINGS. <br />WHEREAS, the County road known as 8th Street (Glendale <br />Road) presently serves an important east -west secondary collector <br />A <br />road function for traffic west of U. S. Highway #1; and <br />WHEREAS, a significant portion of eastbound traffic in <br />this region of the County is bound ultimately for a destination <br />lying eastward of U. S. Highway #1; and <br />WHEREAS, at present, this traffic must, by necessity, <br />travel an indirect route via U. S. Highway #1, thereby extending <br />travel distance and time, and creating an additional source of <br />traffic which burdens the north -south capacity of U. S. Highway <br />#1; and <br />WHEREAS, an extension of 8th Street to the east across <br />U. S.
