RESOLUTION NO. 82-116 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE <br />SUPREME COURT OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO CERTIFY <br />THE NEED FOR AN ADDITIONAL COUNTY COURT JUDGE <br />FOR INDIAN RIVER COUNTY FURTHER REQUESTING THE <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AND <br />THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO <br />ESTABLISH THE POSITION. <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County has experienced the tremen- <br />dous growth prevalent along the Treasure Coast of Florida during <br />the last ten years, and <br />WHEREAS, despite the increase in population and atten- <br />dant increase in case load in the County Court system, Indian <br />River County has only been allocated one County Court Judge, and <br />WHEREAS, the case load handled by the Indian River <br />County Court is nearly double that handled by other County Courts <br />in areas of comparable population as shown in the statistics set <br />forth in Exhibit A to this resolution, and <br />WHEREAS, the neighboring counties of Martin and St. <br />Lucie both presently have two County Court Judgeships, and <br />WHEREAS, the Indian River County Bar Association <br />endorses the need and requests the establishment of another County <br />Court Judgeship, and <br />WHEREAS, the current County Court Judge has informed the <br />Chief Judge of the Circuit that the time has come to share the <br />growing case load with another judge, and <br />WHEREAS, after careful review of this topic, the Board <br />of County Commissioners of Indian River County believes that a <br />second County Court Judgeship is necessary in Indian River <br />County. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that; <br />1. The Supreme Court of the State of Florida is <br />requested to review the status of Indian River County and certify <br />the need for an additional County Court Judgeship, and <br />2. The legislative delegation of Indian River County is <br />urged to support a second County Court Judgeship in Indian River <br />County, and <br />-1- <br />
