<br />PROCLAMATION
<br />WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a serious and growing.
<br />problem affecting more than 3.1 million of our nation's children
<br />annually and over 3,500 children locally; and
<br />WHEREAR, the societal malignancy called child abuse and
<br />neglect respects no racial, religious, class, or geographical
<br />boundaries and, in fact, has been declared a national emergency;
<br />and
<br />WHEREAS, the Exchange Club C.A.S.T.L.E. of the Treasure
<br />Coast, Inc., Tri County Tee, Center for Children in Crisis,
<br />Hibiscus Children's Center and Children's Rome Society, through
<br />their support of parent aide programs, parenting classes and
<br />educational programs, are making significant progress in stopping
<br />this crime against our nation's and community's children and
<br />families:
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLRM= BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
<br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the entire
<br />month of April, 1996 be observed as
<br />CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
<br />in Indian River County, and the Board urges all citizens to use
<br />this time to better understand, recognize and respond to this
<br />grievous problem.
<br />The Board further congratulates above-mentioned agencies for
<br />their continued success in helping families break free from the
<br />cycle of child abuse.

<br />PROCLAMATION - PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK
<br />Proclamation accepted by Jean Kline, Director of the Indian
<br />River County Public Health Unit, who thanked the Board and
<br />introduced Dr. David Holtzclaw, the new Medical Director.
<br />PROCLAMATION
<br />WHEREAS, Florida's annual celebration of Public Health Week will
<br />increase awareness and understanding of the importance of a
<br />strong public health policy; and
<br />WHEREAS, Public health services reach all the residents and
<br />visitors of Indian River County, thereby crossing all ethnic,
<br />socio-economic, and individual family and social strata of
<br />our communities; and
<br />WHEREAS, Indian River County will participate in Public Health Week
<br />and will be joined by many other counties; and
<br />WHEREAS, Public health knowledge and awareness of healthful
<br />behavior are cost effective and contribute significantly to
<br />the reduction of needless physical and emotional suffering:
<br />and
<br />WHEREAS, the Indian River County Public Health Unit and other
<br />public health servige providers will continue vital
<br />contributions to improve the health of all citizens; and
<br />WHEREAS, Public Health Week's community outreach effort will
<br />deliver health promotion messages directly to the communities,
<br />ensuring that the general public and professions have an
<br />opportunity to participate inthe event and improve their
<br />understanding and appreciation for the vital impact public
<br />health has upon shaping healthier future for Indian River
<br />County: - ' NOW,. THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
<br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of
<br />April 1 - 7, 1996 be designated as
<br />PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK
<br />in Indian River County, and the Board encourages our citizens
<br />to use this week to participate in activities that will help
<br />them choose a healthy lifestyle.
