O'BRYAN, COMMISSIONER OF DISTRICT FOUR <br />WHEREAS, Peter O'Bryan was first elected to the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners by the citizens of Indian River County in 2006, and has served tirelessly with distinction for IS <br />years (four terms); he worked hard to establish consensus and find common ground and always enjoyed <br />trying to help County residents find solutions to problems facing them; and <br />WHEREAS, Peter's background and knowledge of the natural environment was instrumental in <br />driving policies and projects that helped protect our natural resources, particularly the health of the Indian <br />River Lagoon such as: Osprey Marsh, Osprey Acres, Egret Marsh, septic to sewer projects in Sebastian, <br />West Wabasso, and Roseland, and adoption of a fertilizer ordinance; moreover, he advocated with the State <br />legislature for a moratorium on application of biosolids which were impacting Blue Cypress Lake; and <br />WHEREAS, Peter has effectively served on the Economic Development Council for many years, <br />where he supported responsible incentives and policies such as an improved job grant program and a vote`s <br />approved tax abatement program, which led to the recruitment, retention and expansion of numerous new <br />and existing businesses that provide high quality, higher wage jobs for local workers and earned him the <br />Carolyn K. Eggert Award from the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce; and <br />WHEREAS, Peter has enthusiastically participated and chaired on several regional committees, such <br />as: Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Treasure Coast Council of Local Governments, and <br />Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), understanding and embracing the importance of working <br />collaboratively with government leaders of surrounding areas; as Chairman of MPO, he saw development bf <br />the first ever Greenways Plan and numerous transportation projects; and <br />WHEREAS, Peter has been a solid advocate for Indian River County's interests in Tallahassee, <br />having served in numerous committee positions with the Florida Association of Counties, earning him the <br />Presidential Advocacy Award for 3 years. His work has helped to preserve local home rule, with one notable <br />example preventing the loss of the County's ability to have common-sense regulations on vacation rentals. <br />His advocacy has resulted in many successes, including securing $31 million in safety improvements 4t <br />Brightline railroad crossings to protect residents; and <br />WHEREAS, Peter's decisions and actions were always guided by a deep sense of integrity and <br />passion to do what was in the best interest of the citizens of Indian River County,- he has advocated for <br />responsible growth while protecting our quality of life which led policies that were based upon a long-term <br />perspective. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER4, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board, in recognition of his numerous contributions an <br />distinguished service to this community, expresses its appreciation to Peter D. O'Bryan, and his fellow Boar I <br />members wish him the very best in his future endeavors. <br />Adopted this 15' day of November, 2022.
