RESOLUTION NO.84--66 <br />Y A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, PURSUANT TO FLORIDA STATUTES <br />a 9101.161, ESTABLISHING THE FORM OF <br />BALLOT FOR A REFERENDUM TO BE HELD AT <br />THE GENERAL ELECTION IN NOVEMBER, <br />1984, FOR AN ADDITIONAL ONE -YEAR -ONLY, <br />ONE CENT SALES TAX TO BUILD A COUNTY <br />JAIL. <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, Florida, adopted Ordinance No. 84-60, <br />providing :or the imposition of a one -year -only additional, one <br />cent sales tax, subject to voter approval in November, 1984, and <br />WHEREAS, Florida's Statutes provide that the County <br />must adopt an enabling resolution, setting forth the form of the <br />ballot. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, <br />that: <br />1. The ballot, pursuant to Indian River County Ordinance <br />No. 84-60, shall appear on the 1984 general election as follows; <br />One year only additional one cent (1t) <br />sales tax to build a County jail. <br />The chief purpose of this measure is to: <br />1. Satisfy the requirement to build a new <br />jail. <br />2. Impose a one -year -only additional one <br />cent (1¢) sales tax for the 1985 <br />calendar year on the first $1,000 of <br />value on transactions subject to sales <br />tax. <br />3. Provide an equitable means of funding <br />the jail, saving up to 3.5 million <br />dollars in interest and costs <br />associated with alternate financing. <br />Do you favor financing criminal justice <br />facilities with a one cent (1¢) sales tax <br />for twelve months only? <br />.....Yes -- for financing criminal justice <br />facilities <br />.....No -- against financing criminal <br />justice facilities <br />-1- <br />
