of <br />RESOLUTION NO. 85-64 <br />A RESOLUTION CF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE STATE OF FLORIDA <br />TO REESTABLISH THE COASTAL CONSTRUCTION <br />CONTROL LINE IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY. <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Florida has found and <br />determined that beaches in this State and the coastal barrier dunes <br />adjacent to such beaches, by their nature, are subject to frequent <br />and severe fluctuations and represent one of the most valuable <br />natural resources of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the public interest of the residents of the <br />State of Florida to preserve and protect the Leaches from imprudent <br />construction which can jeopardize the stability of the beach -dune <br />system, accelerate erosion, provide inadequate protection to upland <br />structures, and endanger adjacent property including the beach -dune <br />system; and <br />WHEREAS, in furtherance of these objectives the Legislature <br />adopted a law providing for the establishment of coastal <br />construction control lines in all counties along the Atlantic Ocean <br />so as to define that portion of the beach -dune system which is <br />subject to severe fluctuations based on a 100 -year storm surge, <br />storm waves, or other predictable weather conditions; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Natural Resources, pursuant to the <br />goals set forth by the Legislature, surveyed Indian River County and <br />adopted a coastal construction control line in 1974; and <br />WHEREAS, since the establishment of the Indian River County <br />coastal construction control line, our beaches have suffered from <br />several severe storms, including the Thanksgiving Day. 1984, storm <br />which caused extreme erosion and loss of property; and <br />WHEREAS, as the result of the recent storm activity along our <br />coast, there has been a recession of the beach -dune sytem; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, HE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />1. The State of Florida Department of Natural Resources is <br />requested to take whatever action is necessary to reestablish a <br />coastal construction control line in Indian River County; and <br />CIS <br />
