RESOLUTION NO. 55-130 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF THE REQUEST OF <br />FORT PIERCE JAI -ALAI TO EXTEND ITS <br />PLAYING SEASON BY AN ADDITIONAL 50 - <br />DAY PERIOD. <br />WHEREAS, Fort Pierce Jai -Alai is conveniently located <br />between St. Lucie and Indian River Counties and provides a needed <br />recreational opportunity, both for tourists and local citizens <br />alike; and <br />WHEREAS, the facility offers substantial employment in an <br />area which had an employment problem; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County benefits from its share of <br />the pari-mutuel taxes returned to it each year by the Florida <br />Legislature, as a result in part of Jai -Alai playing; and <br />WHEREAS, Fort Pierce Jai -Alai has requested that it be <br />allowed to operate for an additional 50 -day period each year, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />1. The Indian River County Board of County Commissioners goes <br />on record in favor of the request of Fort Pierce Jai -Alai to extend <br />its playing season by an additional 50 -day period. <br />2. Copies of this resolution may be disseminated by Fort <br />Pierce Jai -Alai, as it sees fit. <br />The foregoing resolution was offered by Commissioner <br />Scurlock who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by <br />Commissioner Bird and, being put to a vote, the vote <br />was as follows: <br />Chairman Patrick B. Lyons Aye <br />Vice Chairman Don C. Scurlock, Jr. Aye <br />Commissioner Richard N. Bird Aye <br />Commissioner William C. Wodtke, Jr. Absent <br />Commissioner Margaret C. Bowman Aye <br />The Chairman thereupon declared the resolution duly passed and <br />adopted this 6th day of November , 1985. <br />
