12/86(Reso)LEGAL(Vk) <br />4P <br />RESOLUTION NO. 86-109 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE SUBSTATE <br />BOUNDARIES COMMITTEE OF THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF <br />FLORIDA IN OPPOSITION TO REMOVING INDIAN RIVER <br />S COUNTY FROM THE TREASURE COAST REGIONAL PLANNING <br />COUNCIL. <br />WHEREAS, historically Indian River County has developed <br />as an integral part of the Treasure Coast region; and <br />WHEREAS, until 1925 Indian River County was a part of <br />St. Lucie County; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County is geographically <br />connected to the rest of the Treasure Coast region by <br />highways A -[-A, U.S. #1, 1-95, and the Florida Turnpike and <br />is thus oriented to the counties to the south rather than <br />the counties to the north; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County is also allied with the <br />rest of the Treasure Coast by reason of newspapers and <br />television and radio stations, since Indian River County is <br />in the market area of these communication industries; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County is part of the Fourth <br />District Court of Appeal, which is headquartered in West <br />Palm Beach; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County has for many years been an <br />integral part of the Treasure Coast Regional Planning <br />Council and is affected more so by what happens in the <br />counties to the south than by those in any other regional <br />planning council area; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />Indian River County officially records its opposition <br />to any change which would remove Indian River County from <br />the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, and that this <br />opposition be delivered in person to the Substate Boundaries <br />Committee of the Florida Senate, meeting in Tallahassee on <br />December 15, 1986. <br />0 <br />
