40 <br />PARR' 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />Tree Pruning Compound: Waterproof, antiseptic, elastic, <br />t, and free of kerosene, coal tar, creosote, and other <br />substances harmful to plants. Pruned or damaged trees <br />shall be treated with the following., <br />I pine treesall s ec es A mixture of twelve <br />percent (12%) Benzine Hexachloride (BHC) <br />emulsifiable concentrate shall, be mixed at the rate <br />of one (1) pint BHC per gallon of 12 fuel oil. <br />Spray damaged area liberally. Spray the rest of <br />the tree from ground level to a height of six feet <br />(61). Spraying of damaged trees shall be completed <br />within five (5) days after injury occurs. <br />2. hardwood{all species except ins : An application <br />of asphalt --type tree pruning paint shall be applied <br />to the damaged area. The paint shall be applied in <br />sufficient quantity so as to form an airtight seal. <br />Spraying or painting of the damaged trees shall be <br />performed within twenty-four (24) hours after the <br />injury occurs. In case of damage to $'specimen" <br />hardwoods, the inspecting Engineer may require the <br />Contractor to retain a skilled and licensed tree <br />surgeon to properly treat the damaged tree. No <br />compensation shall be made to the Contractor for <br />treating damaged trees. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />Protect tree root system from damage due to noxious <br />materials in solution caused by run-off or spoilage <br />during mixing and placement of construction materials, or <br />drainage from stored materials. Protect root systems <br />from flooding, erosion, or excessive wetting resulting <br />from dewatering operations. <br />3.02 REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT O1' TREES <br />A. Repair trees damaged by construction operations, in <br />a manner acceptable to the Engineer. Make repairs <br />promptly after damage occurs to prevent progressive <br />deterioration of damaged trees. <br />B. Remove and replace dead and damaged trees whi,iti are <br />determined by the tree surgeon to be incapable of <br />restoration: to normal growth pattern. <br />02115-2 <br />
