Proclamation <br />DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 7-13,2023, AS <br />NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES WEEK <br />-Whereas, in 1984, President Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating "National <br />Correctional Officers Week," subsequently changed by the U.S. Senate, in 1996, to "National <br />Correctional Officers and Employees Week"; and <br />-Whereas, Indian River County's staff of Correctional Officers, Nurses, Civilian Correction <br />Assistants, and support staff serve in an increasingly arduous and complex environment, in which they <br />are called upon to simultaneously fill custodial, supervisory, and counseling roles while ensuring the <br />safety and well-being of the inmates within our county; and <br />-Whereas, today's well-trained, professional Correctional Officers and correctional personnel <br />face danger in their everyday lives; and <br />-Whereas, the work of Correctional Officers and correctional personnel comes with the broad <br />and challenging responsibility to help inmates develop the skills necessary to become productive <br />members of society; and <br />-Whereas, Correctional Officers and correctional personnel deserve our show of support, as we <br />utilize this week to honor their hard work, professionalism, dedication, courage, and efforts to protect <br />the public, throughout the performance of their demanding and often conflicting roles. <br />Wow, '71herefore, be it Proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, ,Florida, that the week of May 7 - 13, 2023, is designated as National <br />Correctional Officers and Employees Week. <br />11 Adopted this 2nd day of May, 2023. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Joseph H.
