SFV' 2000 Drug Control and System Improvement Formula Grant Program <br />Edward t3yrne Memorial State and Local Assistance <br />be impacted by performances. Finally these youth will provide "skits", peer teaching, peer counseling, and <br />positive role models for youth ages 6.18. <br />The TARGET program is designed to engage and involve high risk youth from the community so they may <br />gain the needed skills to serve as mentors to other possible high Tisk adolescents. The primary objection is <br />empowerment. Not Only will the youth from the community Le empowered through this highly structured <br />program, but this program has shown to build self-esteem, ethnic pride, enhance individual strengths, and <br />most important help youth to abstain from negative peer pressures through prevention information. <br />The overill gor:l is to decrease the impact and propensity for alcohol and other drug ahnse resulting from <br />multiple high risk factors by providing a positive environment enhanced with information and alternatives <br />that may deter drug abuse and the multitude of high risk behaviors. <br />Subgrant Application Section It - Pager 6 of 16 <br />
