Proclamation <br />HONORING JOHN H. ANKENY ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />-Whereas, John Ankeny retired from Indian River County Public Works Traffic <br />Engineering Division effective September 30, 2023; and <br />-Whereas, John Ankeny began his career with Indian River County on October 1, 1985, <br />as a Signal Technician // for 10 years. In 1995, John was promoted to Traffic Manager for 5 <br />years. In 2000, John was promoted to Signal Coordinator and remained in that position for 23 <br />years until his retirement. It is pertinent to highlight, in 1985 there was no communication or <br />coordination between signals. The County maintained approximately 50 traffic devices. The <br />County began maintaining the signals within the City of Vero Beach in the early 1990's. To date, <br />the County maintains 231 traffic devices with 164 full traffic signals and 98% of signalized <br />intersections with communication monitored by a state-of-the-art Traffic Management Center. <br />John directly assisted the County Traffic Engineers and Public Works Directors with these <br />upgrades. <br />-Whereas, John Ankeny has served this County and Public with distinction and <br />selflessness, providing citizens with valuable information and help they were seeking during his <br />38 -year career at the Indian River County Public Works Traffic Engineering; his work was <br />appreciated by his employer, citizens, and co-workers alike; and <br />Wow, 71herefore, be it Proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners <br />of Indian River County, ,Florida, that the Board applauds John H. Ankeny's efforts on <br />behalf of the County, and wishes to express their appreciation for the dedicated service he has <br />given to Indian River County; and <br />Be It Further Proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners and staff extend <br />heartfelt wishes for success in his future endeavors! <br />Adopted this 26t" Day of September 2023. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Joseph H.
