Continuing our work with The Learning Alliance, a nationally recognized literacy services
organization, we will continue to refine the scope and efficacy of our 1st Grade Student Matinee (The
Sleeping Princess) and 3rd Grade Student Matinee (Firebird), while preparing to launch our 4th Grade
Student Matinee (The Four Seasons) in the following season.
Stage to Page is free (with transportation/bus scholarships available), and in addition to attending a
full-scale performance, each school we serve must participate in on campus arts literacy/arts integration
workshops with our artists. These engagement workshops are four-part opportunities to strengthen the
marriage between literacy and the arts for teachers and students.
The goal of Stage to Page is two -fold. First, Stage to Page is a product of The Learning Alliance and
the School District of Indian River County's goal to have 90% of students in Indian River County reading
on grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Second, Stage to Page reflects Ballet Vero Beach's vision of a
future where arts organizations work alongside social service nonprofits to combat complex social and
economic issues; in this case, early literacy. Stage to Page not only gives arts exposure to both
students and teachers in Indian River County, it provides the tools of arts integration and arts literacy,
which can be used across multiple disciplines by both populations.
Funds from this grant will be used to support program staff salaries, training, and curriculum
development associated with the refining and expansion of the Stage to Page program.
