Helping Hand staff attends in school activities like awards ceremony, lunch, and daytime meetings. We also visit students in class once a week. The visit to class is to be visual and get all make up work and any area of concern. We walk with our parents sitting in meeting about their child behavior or academics. We coach our parents on holding and conducting a meeting when it comes to advocating for their child or children, translating all information so that our parents walk away empower and involved. We use steps 1. Show 2. Assist 3. Step back. Our parents have the support and encouragement that they are in control of their IEP, 504, and any other things that are going to help their child to be successful. Helping Hands has created opportunities for our parents to show up in the school on great opportunities like family engagement week where they're able to sit in the classroom and have lunch with their child or children.
