40 <br />r <br />B. In distributing lite material a[ the site of the work, each piece shall be <br />unloaded opposite or near the place where it is to be laid in the trench. <br />4. ALIGNMENT, GRADE, AND COVI1Tl',iwOR BURIED PIPING SYSTEMS <br />A. Pipe shall be laid and maintained to the required lines, depths, and gravies. <br />B. Wherever obstructions not indicated on tite Drawings are encountered during <br />tile progress of tite work and interfere to such an extent that all alteration in <br />the Drawings is required, (lie Engineer will order a deviation from lite line <br />and grade or arrange with (lie owners of the structures for the removal, <br />relocation, or reconstruction of the obstructions. <br />C. Tile nlaxinium pertuissible deflection for pipe and fittings shall be as <br />recommended by the manufacturer. <br />D. installation of drainage pipe less than 18" diameter in runs of 100 feet or <br />greater, or as required by the Engineer, shall be controlled by use of a laser to <br />maintain proper grade. The Contractor shall also be responsible for verifying <br />elevations of (he pipe, as indicated on the Drawings, at sufficient points during <br />progress of the work to identify discrepancies between actual and plan <br />elevations due to laser misalignment, equipment error, etc., and to correct [tie <br />work as required to conform to lite Drawings. <br />5. PIPE TRENCH EXCAVATION <br />A. TRENCII DIMENSIONS <br />1) 'File tuin'tmum width of the trench shall be equal to the outside <br />diameter of (lie pipe at lite joint plus 8 inches for unsheeled trenches, <br />or 12 inches for sheeted trench, and the maximurn width of treneb, <br />measured at the top of the pipe, shall not exceed the nominal pipe <br />diameter plus two feet, unless otherwise shown on the Drawing details <br />or approved by die Engineer. 'french walls shall be vertical from the <br />bolioni of [lie trench to a title treasured one foot above [lie top or tiie <br />pipe. Front one foot above lite lobi of the pipe to file surface, lite <br />trench walls shall he as nearly vertical as soil conditions will pertnit, <br />unless otherwise detailed on the Drawings. Spaces for joints, fillings, <br />manholes and other structures shall be maintained unless otherwise <br />approved by the Engineer, or alternate methods are detailed oil lite <br />Drawings. Should the specified inaximunl width of trench be exceeded, <br />Elie pink shall he adequately reinforced as directed by ttie Engineer, at <br />the Contractor's expense. <br />2) Trench grade for pipe or structures not requiring special bedding <br />material shall be defined as the grade of lite bot(om surface of the <br />ulility or structure to be constructed or placed within [lie trench. Such <br />shaping of the trench bottom, as may be required to provide -itable <br />bedding, shall be considered to be part of this work. Trench grade in <br />non -cushioning material shall be defined as b inches below lite outside. <br />of the bottom of the utility, which G inches shall be backfilled with <br />suitable bedding material. Unauthorized excavation below trerwil <br />grade shall lie backfilled to trench grade and suitably compacted by lite <br />Contractor without additional cost to rile Owner. Final Irlmnling and <br />grading of trench bottom shall be done manually. <br />024111-2 <br />
