40 <br />C] <br />4 <br />MORTAR BEDDING AMD JOINTING: <br />L,� hollow concrete masonry units with full mortar coverage <br />on horizontal and vertical face shells. Bed webs in mortar in <br />starting course on footings and in all courses of piers, <br />columns and ppilasters, and where adjacent to cells or <br />cavities to be reinforced or filled with concrete or grout. <br />For startingg course on footings where cells are not grouted, <br />spread out fu11 mortar bed including areas under cells. <br />Maintain Joint- widths shown, except for minor variations <br />required to maintain bond alignment. if not shown, lay walls <br />with 3/811 joints. <br />Cut joints flush for masonry walls which are to be concealed <br />or to be covered by other materials, unless otherwise <br />indicated. <br />Tool exposed joints slightly concave using a jointer larger <br />than joint thickness, unless otherwise indicated. <br />Remove masonry units disturbed after laying;. clean and reset <br />in fresh mortar. Do not pound corners or jambs to shift <br />adjacent stretcher units which have been set in position. If <br />adjustments are required, remove units, clean off mortar and <br />reset in fresh mortar. <br />Collar ,7 ints: After each course is laid, fill the vertical <br />longitudinal joint between wythes solidly and with mortar for <br />all exterior walls. <br />Corners: Provide interlocking masonry unit bond in each <br />course at corners, unless otherwise shown. <br />For horizontally reinforced masonry, provide continuity <br />at corners with prefabricated "L" units, in addition to <br />masonry bonding. <br />.=nterseatinqoor and Abutti_alls: If carried up separately, <br />blck tootncr�y <br />h vertical joint with 8" maximum offsets and <br />provide rigid steel anchors spaced not more than 4'-011 o.c. <br />vertically, or omit blocking and provide rigid steel anchors <br />at not more than 2'-01' o.c. vertically. Form anchors of <br />galvanized steel not less than 1-1/2" x 1/411 x 2'--01, long <br />with ends turned up not less than 2" or with cross -pins. If <br />used wl hh hnl l ow masonry jnits, embad ends iii ilm[urLar-filled <br />cores. <br />Non-bearinq Interior Partitions: Build full height of story <br />to underside of solid floor or roof structure above, unless <br />otherwise shown. <br />Wedge non-bearing partitions against structure above <br />with small pieces of tile, slate or metal.
