SECTION 3A - REINFORCED CONCRETE <br />1. SCOPE <br />A. The workcovered under this section shall include, but not be limited <br />to, concrete manholes, inlets, catch basins, curb, curb and gutter, street <br />repair, and sidewalks. It shall include all materials, equipment, labor, <br />finishing, form work and curing. <br /># 1 GENERAL <br />A. The concrete shall be a workable plastic mix composed of poTtland <br />cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, air and water proportioned <br />and mixed to provide the strength of concrete called for upon the Plans. <br />The water -cement ratio shall be kept to the minimum necessary to <br />achieve proper placing and finishing. Any item relative to concrete or <br />reinforcing under this item that is not covered herein, shall be in <br />accordance with the ACI 318-71 Building Code and the Design and <br />Control of Concrete Mixtures by Portland Cement Association. <br />B. Concrete mixing may be done in a portable mixer, a transit- mix truck, <br />i or if less than five cubic feet, in a mortar box; provided all ingredients <br />including water are accurately measured by weight or volume. <br />I Measurement by the "shovel full" is specifically prohibited. No mixer <br />t shall be loaded above its rated mixing capacity. <br />1 C. Transit mix trucks shall not wash out their trucks on itte site without <br />6 the specific permission of the Engineer and any waste concrete shall be <br />removed to a public dump. <br />3. CEMENT <br />k ° A. Cement shall be portiand cement conforming to ASTM C 150 types i, IA, <br />i III and for 111A. Cement, if delivered to site, shall be in unbroken paper <br />bugs plainly marked with the manufactures minae, the brand name, the <br />i type of cement, and the weight of cement in the bag. All cement shall <br />be properly protected against dampness. Bags containing caked cement <br />I shall be rejected. Cement shall be used in the same order as received, that <br />t is first in, first out, <br />f 4. AGGRCGA'1 ES <br />I A. Aggregates shall conform to the 1996 Florida Department of <br />'Transportation Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, <br />I Sinckpiling of ill f'.rf!arcs shall he done in xuch a manner as to prevent <br />t- segregation or contarnination. <br />5. AIR ENTRAINMENT <br />i . A. Air entrainment is required and shall be maintained between 3 and 6 <br />percent considered as an optimum. Concrete showing more than 6 <br />p percent may be rejected. <br />
