Szpyrka, P.E., Public Works Director <br />FROM: Eric Charest, Natural Resource Manager <br />SUBJECT: Work Order No. 2018029-7 APTIM: Sector 5 Additional Dune Planting - <br />Dune Vegetation Services <br />DATE: September 10, 2021 <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />On April 3, 2018, the Board approved a contract with APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC <br />(Aptim) for professional coastal engineering and biological support services related to the <br />management and restoration of the Sector 5 (City of Vero Beach) beach project area. The Sector <br />5 project area is a 3 -mile section of shoreline that extends just north of Tracking Station Beach <br />Park south to the Gables Oceanfront Condominiums. The Sector 5 project area sustained damage <br />from Hurricane Matthew (2016), Hurricane Irma (2017) and Hurricane Dorian (2019). In response <br />to the damage, the County completed the Sector 5 Beach and Dune Restoration Project in the <br />winter of 2020 in order to maintain protection to upland properties and infrastructure. <br />Additional FEMA Funding was made available to the County for future storm mitigation efforts <br />pertaining to the Sector 5 Beach and Dune Restoration Project in order to aid in the preservation <br />of the dunes through additional planting of native dune vegetation. <br />The proposed Work Order No. 2018029-7, in the amount of $48,021.00, provides professional <br />services in support of dune vegetation design, plans and specifications, construction <br />administration, and certification of completion of the Sector 5 Additional Dune Planting Project. <br />Staff worked with APTIM to reduce Work Order No. 2018029-7 costs where possible and feasible. <br />FUNDING <br />Funding for Work Order No. 2018029-7 APTIM: Sector 5 Additional Dune Planting - Dune <br />Vegetation Services in the amount of $48,021.00 is budgeted and available in the Beach <br />Restoration Fund, Hurricanes Matthew, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Dorian Account - Sector 5, <br />No. 12814472-066510-17001. <br />Account Name <br />I Account No. <br />I Amount <br />Sector 5 Beach Renourishment <br />1 12814472-066510-17001 <br />1 $48,021.00 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />M <br />
